Plant Description

Hubei #5 Lotus is one of the most desirable, edible tubers in Asia. This lotus has few flowers but very large tubers and they grow well in very large containers or in earth bottom ponds. The flowers on this large lotus are pink and white. This lotus grows 4 - 5 feet tall and may be harvested in late fall or early spring.

How to plant  edible tuber lotus

Plant your Hubei #3 lotus or any other large lotus in very large tubs if growing for the flower, but to grow for larger edible tubers to eat ,then large beds 4 feet x 4 feet in diameter or larger, or perhaps large tanks or preferably, natural bottom ponds. Use loam soil and add 6 - 8 inches of water above the soil.  Edible tubers should be 1 - 4 inches around for cooking purposes.
