Lotus (Nelumbo) are plants confused often as a waterlily. They are very different though both grow in water. Lotus are shallow water plants that grow up out of the water. They love shallow shelves and come in many sizes from exquisite of bowl growing less than 14 inches all to Large varieties that can easily stand 6 feet above water. Only two species exist one Yellow from North America (Nelumbo Lutea) and the Asian variety (Nelumbo Nucefera - Hindu Lotus) which is pink. All cultivars / varieties with names are derived from the two species.
